(no subject)

I'm certainly very relieved today - mom is home again, and all is well (including Rusty, the 15-year old calico who vanished in the madness of rushed evacuation). Thanks to all of you who weighed in with concern.

Otherwise, of course, I'm watching the rest of my state burn. My dad lived for a while in Lake Arrowhead, in an astonishing 4-story house he designed and built himself; I actually think it went up in the last fire up there, but if not...I'm sure it's gone by now.

And my teen years were spent in San Diego. I knew people in Rancho Bernardo, in Poway, in Ramona...all places that I'm seeing in devastation now. I still have a few friends down there, and half of them have been evacuated to the stadium in Mission Valley now.

I'd like to say "We now return you to your regularly scheduled Halloween", but it seems entirely too flippant while so many homes - and memories - are going up in flames.
