The Tale of the Book Thief

I've had an exciting week so far (Sunday's delightful signing notwithstanding): I've got a pinched nerve and an inner ear infection. My computer took the Big Crashola yesterday, and I'm trying to pick up the pieces now. And we caught a high-end book thief at the store.

That part, at least, was kind of interesting. On Monday, we were tipped off (yes, by the anonymous e-mail and everything!) that several of our more expensive books had suddenly appeared on ebay. We ended up discovering a total of 8 missing books, ranging in value from $75 to $1,500, that had recently been listed at ebay all by a single seller. We contacted both the police and the individual, and got back 5 of our books 24 hours later, with a promise to repay the 3 that had already been shipped off to buyers. This is the second book thief in a year we've caught because they've placed stolen books on ebay, with easily identifiable photos.

It really is amazing what some of these thieves think they can get away with. And hey - I guess we should be thankful that ebay is The Best Place to Fence Stolen Goods in the 21st Century!
