I need some rest

This weekend was like a mini-World Horror Convention right here in my own backyard. Steve Jones and Mandy Slater were in town, as were Nancy and Belle Holder (check out Belle's first published story in Furry Fantastic!). After stopping Saturday afternoon to say hi to Stephen Woodworth at his Dark Delicacies signing (for From Black Rooms), rgrove and I spent a delightful Saturday evening playing tour guides to those Holder gals, chauffeuring them to our favorite San Gabriel Valley hangouts (including the Hawaii Supermarket, FiveStar Laser, and Noodle Planet/Boba World).

Sunday morning began with brunch with Nancy and her L.A. posse, and I greatly enjoyed meeting old friends and new (including screenwriter Gillian Horvath, who has worked almost as often with Regent Entertainment as I have). Then the afternoon was given over to the Steve Jones Show, with special guests including David Schow, Roberta Lannes, Pete Atkins, Dennis Etchison, Del Howison, Debbie Smith, and of course those Holders. Boy, if any horror terrorists had attacked the patio of the Mucho Mas Restaurant yesterday, they could've decimated a considerable chunk of the genre.

Fortunately that didn't happen. The genre is fine. Steve, Mandy and I met for an hour to talk about the 2007 Stoker Awards event. Pete, Dennis and I shared anecdotes about this year's Rolling Darkness Revue. Roberta, Debbie and I all celebrated sales to Hot Blood 13. Belle Holder worried about her new acquisition, a hermit crab named Mr. Crabbypants.

Sometimes there is more to writing than just daily word count. I got no actual writing done this weekend, but I feel as if I somehow worked and accomplished much.
