One year ago...

...a one-eyed bitch named Katrina and the worst Federal administration in our nation's history worked closely together to create the American disaster we thought could never happen here. It's a disaster that's still ongoing. And that same administration has done virtually nothing.

It's up to us, I guess. Do something today, whether it's as simple as reading this, or as big as planning a vacation to New Orleans. Watch Spike Lee's excellent 4-hour documentary When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts on HBO. Read docbrite's blog this week. Write a letter to your congressional representatives. Make a donation or volunteer - hey, maybe we're not down with their Christian agenda, but Habitat for Humanity has probably done more to help Katrina victims with housing than FEMA has.

We have to be the ones to remember and care, since our government has provided ample proof that this is not their job.
