This Sunday much as I'd like to be at Kelly's memorial services in San Diego, I'll be up here in Burbank participating in the signing for the Dark Delicacies anthology (go to for more information). The signing will be attended by both editors (Del Howison and Jeff Gelb), and a number of the contributors, and will be the only major signing for this great anthology.

I also just received my contributor's copies of DreamHaven's Shelf Life: Fantastic Stories Celebrating Bookstores, and I'm really glad this anthology is finally available in an affordable trade edition (previously you could only buy a $75 signed/limited). At $25, it's a bargain - you get stories by Jack Williamson (c'mon, fer cryin' out loud, a new story by Jack Williamson!), Harlan Ellison, Gene Wolfe, Charles De Lint, P. D. Cacek, and lots more, including yours truly. The book looks beautiful, and you'll be happy to see this one on your shelves. There'll be a couple of copies available at the Dark Delicacies signing on Sunday, so you can get at least one contributor to sign that as well. If you miss out on Sunday, I hear the books are being carried at the Borders stores, although you can also order direct from Dream Haven.

There ya go - a shameless dual plug! However, just so it's not completely self-serving, let me just mention: Both of these anthologies were put together by editors who also run two of the best independent bookstores in the country, and I know how much small booksellers struggle in this increasingly illiterate culture, so I'd really like to do whatever I can to support both books. Buy 'em and you'll not only get a bunch of amazing short fiction, you'll also be helping to keep the written word alive in America. Can't do much better than that, can we?
